Compulsive exaggerators

I've got this friend who exaggerates to the point that I just don't believe anything she says.

Examples:
-Told me how her new boyfriend has been hitting the gym for 13 years and he's huge. I thought sweat, i can bounce a few questions off him as I'm fairly new to the whole gym scene. I meet the guy and he looks more like Napoleon Dynamite than Conan the Barbarian

-Constantly talks up her friends, how they make 6-figure salaries & have investment properties all over the place. I meet them and they all make average jobs and only 1 of them has an investment property which she bought halfies with her cousin.

-Always talks up how she had a mad weekend, and they danced all night at this cool night club. I'm always left wondering why I miss out on these great nights. I've been clubs with her before, & she dances for about 15 mins, gets drunk off 2 drinks, and we've never stayed out past 1am because she's tired and has headaches.

-All the clubs, restaurants, functions & social events she goes to are like the greatest of their type in the world. No exaggeration from me here, this girl tells me how awesome her McDonalds was...

List goes on and on, you get my drift.
Why does she do it? Is it some sort of insecurity that she feels she must talk up every aspect of her life? I suppose it shouldn't bother me, but I seriously am starting to not believe anything she tells me, I distrust her I guess you could say. That can't be good for a friendship?




Sorry if this thread sounds like a whinge, but I guess it is. I love how I can get stuff off my chest on these forums.

Haha, I would never deflate her ego. She's a friend, so I wouldn't say anything that would make her feel bad.

The issue is a trust thing though, I'm beginning to seriously doubt everything she tells me.

And what do you mean feel better about myself? How on earth did you manage to turn this around on me? lol

1) Good for you.

2) Well it is one of those things where every lie has a bit of truth to it.

3) I didn't mean to turn it on you. Many people are just that way.

My ex is exacly like that.. her name isn't Jamie is it? =P She has low self esteem and she has low self worth. She does not consider her life to be fantastic, so she has to impress others to try to fill the void within her self worth.. To make her seem important in other words. Let me guess, she tries to impress everyone around her. She's been there, done that, even gone the extra distance when you have done the "exact same thing as she did" in response to your fantastic story?
I hate women like that, my friends hate women like that. IMO, they are stupid. Always trying to find acceptance when acceptance has already been found.
I use to date a girl like that, didn't mind it at first... until it got bad. She told me she was pregnant.. all the time.. to the point where I didn't believe her. She even under exaggerated. She told me she had with 3 people in her life, including me. Found out later, dont know if this was an exaggeration, but she said she has had with 30+ people.... that kind of grossed me out. She was even proud of that fact. The funny part is. She tells me of other people being sluts.. including her best friend. She told me just the other day that her job hired a new applicant who use to be a stripper... then she goes off on saying how much of a slut the stripper is.
It's laughable at best. People like that need theoropy.
