You know how sometimes you say the first thing that comes to mind without thinking first? Well, I'm looking after a woman with ostioneucrosis et sequella (bone death) and she got in a bit of an ill mood and said "Dammit, you treat me like I'm some sort of pet." Well, I was coming out of a depression and I can be a smartass when coming out of a depression, so I said, "that's because that's what you are, you're a pet; like Ripper" Oops.

Its very hard to mention something without thinking about it first. Sure it can be done but when something quickly gets thought of then it quickly comes out. I have found many times to say stupid things also....
I guess it wasn't a smart thing what you said but I have done my share of saying bad things out of fustration. My girlfriend tells me to think about it first but with my brain it just doesn't work that way ;)
It has been said though and there nothing you can change about it. She will say some nasty stuff out of fustration in future fights. If she doesn't nor hasn't allready done that then I want to know how her mind can do like  Its normal to say thing out of fustration. It does hurt but the only thing you can do as a partner is apologize and give them time to get over it so you both can move on from that arguement.

Oh, she's not that mad and we can't be partners anyway because she only has about two years to live. She couldn't be a real partner to me anyway, but we yell at each other a good bit if that counts. Being able to come up with a smartass reply quickly isn't always a bad thing. My CS102 teacher told me once that she had been in an ill mood earlier, but was okay then. I had the perfect response; "That's good. We can't be yelling at each other because the dean will think we're fratenizing."

Sorry to hear about her condition... :( I thought you both were dating and my apologies for that confusion. Are you a close friend to her?
We all say stupid things from time to time and its very hard to stop something when it comes so quickly as a thought. IF something stupid does come out then just try to find a good revocery.... Mine is usually "i love you, hun" :D

Diablo,How did she get bone death and also what happened after that? Are you still dating this girl?

She's an old friend of the family. Before her husband died of cancer, he asked me to look after her. Not much is known about ostioneucrosis since it's a rare disease. Anyway, I yank her chain sometimes, am careful to get a read on her mood first usually.

Thats kind of you to stick by her side though and give her a little chuckle one in a while. I would imagine it be depressing when you have a time limit on your life and people like you are probably making her life just that much happier to live....You get a high five Diable :D

Yeah, but I have to think of a way to cheer her up and not much of the things that usually work with most people apply here. Sometimes she responds to "get your mind off life's bs for a while; nothing you can do about it tonight." But today she's been more depressed than normal. Any suggestions?

I wish I had good suggestion for you here but I am pretty much stuck on what to try. I can things of cheer like bringing her some of her favorite sweets, some crafts/hobbies she likes, movies, music, or even a suprise drive out into the mountains/lanscape that may be breath taken for her but in reality I really just dont know what type of situation you are in. You seemt o be doing great though. Even though she desn't show it some days you have to place yourself in her shows and you'll see why she is not in the mood everyday. My suggestion is be there like you have been for her and that will be enough. If may not seem it to you but deep down it is to her.

What about pets. I don't really know the situation and I don't mean to get a pet-- but have one visit. :D You know how they take pets to hospitals and nursing homes and say the dogs or whatever help boost the moods.
Sorry that was all I could think of.

Well, a neighbor helpped her get some patio furniture and gave her some art supplies. That will help. She's Catholic and it will probably help that they picked a new pope. Anyway, she is in a bit of a better mood today.

She'll have her good days and bad as I pointed out. You'll get fustrated from time to time but don't give up and stay the good friend that you have always been to her;)

Well, right now, I'm a bit depressed myself. So far, this year hasn't been the fothermucker 2001 was, but it's had its moments. I need to rock out on my Stratocaster, but it resides at the pawn shop and will for a couple of more weeks. Perhaps I should write a poem. I usually write good poems when I'm depressed

Try it and see what happens? Why are you feeling depressed? She should be happy because they did elect a new pope :D

VATICAN CITY: Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, a longtime guardian of doctrinal orthodoxy, was elected the new Pope
on Tuesday evening in the first Roman Catholic conclave of the new millennium. He chose the name Pope Benedict XVI.

Diablo, how long have you met this girl?
Diablo
04-20-2005, 12:47 AM
Howard: I think I first met her in '89 or so. She ran around with my dad when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Anyway, I think part of why I'm depressed is too many all-nigthters. You throw yourself out of whack when you pull too many of them. Anyway, I'm also tired as hell; absolutely no energy. I did sleep the past few nights, but the change of season has a lot of people feeling run down.

Are you pulling these all nighters because of her? What you are doing is a good thing. Even though some days it shows she doesn't appreciate it you are still doing something good. You have to compromise with your personal life also. If you think this is making you depressed then try a different routine where you see her everyday but less time so you can have some time to yourself.

Well, I pull all-nighters for various reasons. Right now I am sleeping at night, but still feel rundown and no energy. I guess I should shoot pool tonight. There's a pool tournament at a bar tonight and I think I have a shot at winning it. An outside shot, but it is doable. Anyway, I should get off this computer and tend to life's bs for a while.

If you are feeling run down then why are you going to play pool when you could use that time to rest?

Because I'm not going to get to rest if I stay at home. Since rest isn't an option, perhaps some recreation would be good. I don't know though; the entry fee is five bucks and that's about all the money I have for now. Anyway, that lady is dying. I know it and she knows it and we've been fussin' at each other off and on all day; partially because of that. We've been getting along okay when we're not fussin'. I've kept her alive for a few years now and her not having long regardless of what I do is a bitter pill to swallow. Anyway, shooting pool would get my mind off of life for a while; which I need to do.

then you need to do what you need to do but remember that rest is only a drive away and you do have the option of resting or going out.
