Women: Do you prefer to be approached by a man, or approach a man yourself? Why?
Men: Do you prefer to approach a woman, or have a woman approach you? Why?

I'd rather have a woman approach me,I'm too shy to approach them.

As a female, I'd definitely rather have the male approach me. Depending on the male.. of course. There's a difference between the men who approach every woman at sight trying to get some, or those men who are truly intrigued by you and want to meet you.

Either or is OK. By the time you've done the flirty looking at each other thing, the approach is by mutual consent via eye contact.

and if they see fear, RUN!
Seriously, does it matter? I can say its easier to approach a smiling happy woman than one not so happy. Turn this around and make it easier for a woman to approach you by being happy and smiling.

A woman can detect when a guy is smiling.
I prefer to approach girls. Whenever I'm at a party or kick-it there always seems to be that one lone girl on a couch or on a bench somewhere shying it up, and I absolutely love sitting down next to a girl like that all energetic and start having a conversation with her about the people at the party without her saying a word. If I pull it off right I can get her smiling before she even says a word, that that's when I up and leave without word, and am back 30 seconds later with a drink (whatever's at the party) and sit back down next to her, which is when they always seem to have a third smile third confused third pissed off look about them, which is when I appologize for leaving but that I was thirsty and keep talking about people at the party, which is awesome because it gives a second shot at the smiling before she ever says a word, and if that happens I introduce myself, I get a name, comment on the name (I can normally get a joke in and it helps me remember the name all at the same time) and depending on if she's taken I either found a friend for the night or a romance for the night... but all in all that's how it works on a good night. The only times that I like girls approaching me is if they're funny/witty, I take it as high compliment when a smart girl comes and flirts with me, but unfortunately the smart ones are rarely at parties.

Totally! The thrill of the chase is exciting whether you're doing the chasing, or the one getting chased.

I always go for the nerdy quiet types. They are the diamond in the rough! Nothing quite does it for me than a well-dressed book worm. They can't be World of War Craft nerdy though. There's just something sweet and endearing about an intelligent man unaccustomed to getting approached that has something interesting to talk about. I will sometimes start a debate on a heated issue (party foul topics like religion, politics, etc) and get them going a bit because passion is a huge turn on for me. If a man can flex his brain muscles for me and I can uncover a little fire under that shy exterior I'm done!

The chase is the funnest part. IMO The real work starts after you've both decided to be caught... although thats when the romancing kicks into high gear. I am such a romantic, I've been threatened by my buds to have my man-card revoked.

That is a serious threat BorealSoul. There's a saying that the problems with women don't start until you catch one.

Define problems.
I'll go on record stating that the cause is worth the problems - in most cases

Then after you've done the chasing, you have that person in the grasp of you and then find a place to make out with each other.;)

It seems we have the same interests in people, and they truly are diamonds in the rough... are they more prevalent in Canada? cause here in California they're very hard to find, although it could just be as you said I'm going to the wrong parties, but college parties are just about all I have access too lol, maybe I should avoid frat parties all together and try to find a sorority party!

lvl3: Howard is a pretty awesome guy
I don't know that Canadian guys are any better than the American ones. If the only parties you're going to are frat parties, you need to get out and find a hobby or interest! Sports? Maybe find a cause that you're passionate about and get involved. The only girls you're going to find at the frat parties are the ones looking for a good time...Well, mostly anyways. You're unlikely to find your soulmate at a bar as well. Drinking is a fun past time in college but when it comes to looking for a woman with substance you're going to have to get creative.
