I am considering having my bridesmaids' dresses be black. Here are my reasons:

*There isn't really any color that is appealing to me that much. Blue and purple are my favorite colors, but I'm not sure I like the idea of a bunch of bridesmaids in either of those colors. I'm thinking black dresses with little blue or purple flowers in their hair and blue and/or purple bouquets.

*Black dresses will just make it so the whole wedding party is black and white, it just matches with the tuxes.

*The girls I want to be my bridesmaids all have very different body types and each of them lives in a different state. Therefore, instead of trying to get everyone to agree on the same dress (and get it to each of them), I would prefer to let them pick out their own dresses--I will just give them a color. Being able to choose their own dresses will make the day more fun for them and allow them to pick something suiting to their body type and budget (one of them has very little money, and the other two would also prefer not to drop a lot on a dress), plus if they choose it then they will like it and be able to wear it again. Black would be the easiest color for everyone to match.

*I am going to do my own flower arrangements for centerpieces, bouquets, and any other decorations needed. Basically, this means I am going to go to the florist at the grocery store a day or two before the wedding and buy up a bunch of flowers, so it's pretty much whatever I can find right then. With black dresses, I won't have to try and match them to anything.

*I think the idea sounds a lot worse than what it really ends up looking like. Check out this picture:

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Think it's totally inappropriate? Have other suggestions?

Pick the color that you think would be best for your wedding and what will fit wih the place you pick. Many will have different opinions because different colors mean different things to people.

I looked at the site and those dresses look great. Keep looking around though and see what else is out there. If it comes down to that you like these black dresses the best then go with them. Remember this is the both of your's weeding so you pick what you like. ;)

Have fun and keep us posted.

I love the black and white idea. The picture was great. I prefer the ladies to have matching dresses, especially if it is a fairly formal type wedding.

It's your wedding, go with black dresses for the bridesmaids if that's what you want. Some people will probably say that the dresses should match, but it's easier to get away with them not matching with black than almost any other color. And as you say, the bridesmaids don't have a lot of money to throw around anyway.

I was in a wedding one time and the dresses were 276.00...... I thought...geez it is just a freakin dress!!!! I was pregnant so it isnt' even like I could ever wear it again. Oh well. She was my friend so I did it no problem. I can understand how it would be hard having the girls all being different sizes, shapes, and far away from each other to get matching dresses. Maybe there is a store that each of them has that they can check out some styles. You wouldnt' want two of them to pick out the same one, then have the others not match.
I'm sure it will all work out though. You can't get too stressed over something like that.
My bridesmaid dresses were made from a pattern, so even though some were out of town, a seamstress made them from the pattern so they could still be all the same.

its your wedding you could wear a black wedding gown if you choose. Dont let ANYONE tell you what a wedding should be like, its your wedding, you can wear whatever colors and do back flips down the aisle. You can have the preacher ride in on an ostrich, lol , its your day, your choices,

YOUR DAY

do what YOU thinks best and it will a day you will be happy with forever. If you dont you will regret that you didnt have your wedding just like you wanted it.
